Default Lack Of Activity On The Forum.

Why does there seem to be no activity on this forum?
I am new here but I have made a few posts but with no response, although I note that my posts have received a good few views but no one has replied to them. If they are that bad then please let me know.
It really does feel like a graveyard.
It also seems to be a favourite haunt of spammers.

It's not a matter of "bad" posts, more a matter of there's not many folks here. There are fewer steam fans as time goes by and they're spread out across multiple forums related to the same topics.

There used to be little to no spam here, but seems to have picked up in the last few months as the spammers have discovered this and other forums.

We try to stay on top of the spam, but it's hard to nip a moving target.

Yes, all forums are a favorite haunt of spammers. We have systems in place, but they continue to find ways to work around them. (The favorite, easiest, and cheapest way is to hire some guy in Nigeria to do it for something like 10 cents a day. Since they use real people, it's nearly impossible to lock them out without also locking out real members... )

Part of the reason for the lack of activity is that this forum was created when the Railway Preservation News (a.k.a. RyPN) website and its forum were in apparent danger of closing down for good; our friendly webmaster and moderator, Mr Harbison, set this forum up so the regulars there would have another place to go. RyPN is still very much alive and well, however, and the need for an alternate forum ceased to exist (for now, at least).

Generally speaking, the lack of activity certainly isn't due to lack of interest (one look at the RyPN forum is proof enough of that!) but rather is largely because there are several other sites and forums like RyPN which are dedicated to the same general categories (or specific subjects within those categories), and few of the folks who are regulars at those forums therefore have much reason to come here (I do pop in once in a while just to see what's going on, though).
